Kelly’s Hotel

Kelly's Hotel

After having owned the Cranbourne Hotel before, the Kelly family purchased the Motor Club Hotel in 1923. They envisioned a venue that could cater to the community in an inviting and safe environment. The Kelly family still owns the pub today, which ensures that the pub’s tradition and high standards are maintained.

Feel like a quick bite? You want to celebrate your birthday with the whole family? You want to know what the fuss is all about?
Kelly’s Hotel Kitchen is well-known for its exquisite selection of pub food of the highest quality.
The friendly and knowledgeable staff can accommodate over 2,500 guests every week. You can try a wide range of cuisines, daily specials, and make sure you stay for dessert. You will not be disappointed.

Cafe Bar’s offerings are as varied as the people who use them. You have the option of sitting on one of their mushroom tables or in the lounge area. Both are great places for friends to meet up over a wide range of wines and brews. They cover all of Australia’s great regions, including the Gippsland region and Mornington Peninsula.

Nothing beats dining outdoors on a balmy evening while sipping a refreshing beverage. The Alfresco Deck, which is located curbside at Childers St, can comfortably seat 80 people under the shade of three Chinese Elm trees. They all enjoy watching the big sporting events on the large outdoor TV. Monday through Thursday, 12pm-Late and Friday-Sunday 11:30am-Late are the hours of operation.

Kelly’s Motor Club Hotel, which dates back to the early 1900s, is a fourth-generation hotel. Kelly’s has been an integral part Cranbourne’s past alongside other important industries that have made Cranbourne’s historic identity such as dairy farming, horse, trotting, and greyhound racing (Cranbourne hosts Australia’s only tricode meeting).

Arthur T Kelly bought the Mornington Hotel in 1917. It was on the same site as Kelly’s Hotel. Because it was located in Mornington, the former hotel was appropriately named. Kelly’s Motor Club Hotel was the new name for the pub. Why did they choose that name? To get a Sunday beer, you had to be a “bona fide sailor” in the last century. To qualify, you had to travel a certain distance to Melbourne. Motor vehicle owners came from all over to Kelly’s. They made a local driving tour that started and ended at the pub.

After his service with the R.A.A.F 37th Squadron, Flight Lieutenant Thomas Arthur Kelly (Arthurs’ son) returned to the public as a publican and, with Betty, ran the hotel for thirty years.

Betty and Tom had two children, Margaret & Arthur. Together, Margaret’s husband Alan Stocks & Arthur’s spouse Carol transformed Kelly’s into what it is today. They witnessed the social changes in the hotel industry together, including the ending of closing at 6 o’clock and responsible serving alcohol, gaming, and anti-smoking laws.

Kelly is the fourth generation to continue the tradition. Kelly sits at the heart of a vibrant, growing community.
